Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have been proposing a navigation system for visually impaired persons. The system uses impacts for white cane ferrule and provides virtual guideway to achieve low learning cost with applying common senses of white cane usage. This paper presents preliminary discussions about guideway design for smooth curve navigation based on a result of an experiment with seven healthy subjects. As the result, among the guideway widths investigated in this paper, 1.0 meter width for straight section and 0.5 meter width for curve section showed the best performance. In addition, subjects were found to tend to move to the center of guideway around the curve exit. Finally, we proposed an virtual guideway design for smooth curve walking navigation based on obtained suggestions.
