Super-resolution Scattering Direction Estimation for Circular SAR Imagery

Abstract(in English) Circular synthetic aperture radar (CSAR) is a microwave imaging technique which employs a circular flight trajectory of a radar-carrying aircraft. The CSAR system maintains its antenna beam to point toward the center of the circular path to irradiate the target area of interest from overall azimuthal angles. The CSAR is able to reduce the effect of radar shadow which is commonly arises in the conventional SAR. Furthermore, one can retrieve the azimuthal scattering patterns of the targets in the scene via the two-dimensional Fourier transform of the CSAR images. In this report, we propose an application of high-resolution spectral estimation methods such as MUSIC to the image spectral analysis to improve the angular resolvability. Numerical simulations are provided to show the validity of the algorithm.
