Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Automatic dependent surveillance - broadcast (ADS-B) is an aeronautical surveillance system, the mechanism of which is a periodical broadcast of surveillance information, including position and velocity, by aircraft itself towards ground facilities and aircraft near-by. Original purposes of the ADS-B are air traffic control and collision avoidance, but the authors have proposed its application to radio propagation study. Measuring opportunistic ADS-B signals brings large-scale data with low cost, which can be analyzed from the view point of radio propagation. In this technical report, a preliminary study is reported on an application of opportunistic ADS-B measurement to verification of coverage simulators. A typical coverage simulator computes for a grid of latitude and longitude on a fixed altitude. On the other hand, ADS-B measurement data consist of continuous flight paths. In addition, the actual transmit power and transmit antenna gain of each aircraft are unknown. A method is proposed to solve these practical challenges and is tested in the airspace of Tokyo.
