[Invited Talk] Drone/Balloon Wireless Networks for Emergency Communication Systems during Large-Scale Disasters

Abstract(in English) This presentation studies wireless networks using drones and/or balloonsfor emergency communication systems during large-scale disasters. In the systems, construction of the wireless networks in the sky cankeep line-of-sight (LoS) among wireless nodes, and then covers thedisaster stricken area effectively. I present flight models that achievesmall transmission delay while keeping the smaller number of drones whenthe wireless networks are used as backbone networks for the emergencycommunication systems. The flight models support autonomous operationsthat do not need complex configurations. The performance is evaluated takingaccount of the influence of drones' stop due to their battery exhaustionand the inclination of flying drones. In addition, I present therelationship between flight altitude and the communication areaconsidering LoS range, and the investigation of a channel model from measurement results of received signal strength indicator (RSSI) byusing balloons.
