Abstract(in English) Mode division multiplexing (MDM) using few-mode fibers (FMFs) has been intensively studied. In MDM transmission, mode dependent loss (MDL) is one of the most important parameters limiting the transmission capacity. Hence, measurement of the optical loss and crosstalk (XT) in each mode along FMFs is required. In this paper, we propose the measurement technique of loss and crosstalk in each mode based on Brillouin optical time domain analysis (BOTDA). We also demonstrate its feasibility using a two mode fiber.
