Abstract(in English) | The large spectral bandwidth at millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequencies provides a mean to achieve very high data rates in wireless communication systems. A unique characteristic of mmWave is that mmWave links are very sensitive to blockage and have large propagation path loss, which exhibits low line-of-sight (LOS) probability, unstable connectivity and unreliable communication. To overcome such challenges, in this paper, we propose two reinforcement learning (RL) based user association algorithms. One is to increase the sum LOS probability and the other is to balance the tradeoff between the throughput and the LOS probability for a typical user equipment (UE) in mmWave network. The former is named as Blockage-Aware User Association (BAUA) and the latter modified BAUA. To investigate the performance of the proposed RL based user association algorithms, we consider a mmWave cellular network where a typical UE is located at origin o with a communication radius R, and each base station (BS) within the radius R is a potential serving BS to the UE. Simulation results show increased LOS probability and throughput than the max SINR and round robin based user association algorithms. |
