Abstract(in English) Several excellent techniques of multi-user interference (MUI) cancellation have been proposed for synchronous optical code-division multiple access (OCDMA) systems. These techniques adopt modified prime sequence codes (MPSCs) as signature codes and can remove MUI errors efficiently. In this paper, a capability of canceling background light is examined for each of the typical MUI cancellation techniques. Our results show that if the intensity of background light is constant the Shalaby's scheme and the EWO (CSK) scheme can remove background light and MUI simultaneously at the decoders, while Liu's scheme remove MUI only. We propose a modified version of Liu's scheme which can remove background light, too. Then, we investigate the bit error rate performance of the EWO scheme when there exists background light with various intensity levels.
