[Invited Lecture] Data-Oriented Wake-up Control for Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract(in English) The upcoming IoT society is expected to increase the amount of data to be exchanged among wireless communication devices with their content largely diversified. When supporting these data with a limited radio resource, such as frequency and energy, it is crucial to design data-oriented communication control considering the attribute of supported data. In this paper, as an example of data-oriented communication control, we discuss data-oriented wake-up control for wireless sensor networks. With data collections employing wake-up control, each sensor node is transited to a sleep mode during idle period, which is remotely activated when sensing data is requested by a data collection node. In order to reduce the energy consumption of overall network, it is required for a data collection node to only activate sensor nodes that have its desired data. In this paper, we introduce content-based wake-up control for wireless sensor networks, which can realize remote wake-up of sensor nodes according to their sensed data, and discuss its efficiency.
