Design of silicon-based polarization converter using an asymmetric slot-waveguide

Abstract(in English) In this study, a compact L-shaped polarization converter (PC) based on asymmetrical slotted silicon waveguides has been proposed and analyzed. The entire structure has a symmetrical distribution with respect to the y = x axis, resulting a rotation angle of 45? of the optical axis for each eigen mode. Therefore, an efficient polarization conversion can be achieved. The numerical results using a 3D-FDTD method show that the extinction ratio and insertion loss is -17.1dB and 0.24dB for TE-to-TM mode conversion with a device length of 36.5 μm. Moreover, the modal hybridity of the PC with an asymmetric distribution has also been discussed in detail.
