Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We study on efficient optimal design of optical devices utilizing neural network. By making the neural network learn a lot of device structures and their characteristics, the efficiency of the characteristic analysis can be improved by skipping numerical simulations, and more efficient optimal design can be performed. In this paper, we consider a design of directional coupler type optical devices and analyze it using the coupled mode theory (CMT). Efficient evaluation of a device characteristic is made possible by calculating the phase constant mismatch and mode coupling coefficient required in the CMT analysis by using a neural network. And an optimal design utilizing evolutionary method is studied, where hybrid firefly algorithm (HFA) which combine differential evolution (DE) and firefly algorithm (FA) is employed.
