Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | In recent years, there has been a growing interest in stimulating specific brain tissue non-invasively for medical treatment and diagnosis. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a neuromodulation scheme that delivers a small electric current via electrodes placed on the scalp. The maximum current is under the electrode, so the dominant modulation effect is expected to be on the cortical regions. But subcortical and deeper brain regions could also be engaged due to the high current spread. To investigate tDCS effects on deep brain regions, we computed the distributions and strength of the group-level EF using inter-individual registration methods. Even though EFs distribution presents differences between subjects, group-level EF hotspots existed with a 76% value of the maximum EF strength in the brain. This study indicates that some deep brain regions can be engaged directly by tDCS dose to a certain extent. |
