Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Ultrafast optical switches have many useful applications ranging from ultrahigh-speed optical communication to signal processing and networks. Especially, fiber-based all-optical switches offer the potential for ultrafast operation owing to the femtosecond response time of fiber Kerr nonlinearity. We describe a full C-band ultrafast optical switch with a nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM) that uses a 20-m dispersion-flattened highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF). 650 fs optical switching is successfully demonstrated from 1528 to 1565 nm without shifting the wavelength of the control pulses in the L-band, thus enabling the error-free demultiplexing of 320 Gbaud OTDM signals.
