Surface morphology of MgO/bcc-CrMn stacked underlayer and magnetic properties of FePt thin film stacked on the underlayer

Abstract(in English) In this study, we analyzed the surface morphology of MgO/bcc-CrMn stacked underlayer and magnetic properties of L10 typed FePt thin film stacked on the underlayer by utilizing sputtering for L10-FePt heat assisted magnetic recording (HAMR). As the results, the followings were found; 1) on MgO layer, a network-shaped upheaval structure and a nodule structure were formed, 2) a reduction of CrMn particle size (reduction of CrMn film thickness) is effective for decreasing a size of network-shaped upheaval structure (suppression of formation for nodule structure), 3) the network-shaped upheaval structure had the effect of reducing intergranular exchange coupling for FePt grains. Based on the above results, we have newly proposed a schematic model of HAMR media.
