Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Receiver-initiated Media Access Control (MAC) protocols such as the Feathery Receiver-Initiated Transmission (F-RIT) are suitable for wireless devices that require battery-powered long-term operation for gas and water smart meters. The performances of multi-hop network based on receiver-initiated MAC protocols have been reported. In many cases, the push-type calling systems (i.e., terminals cast their generated data individually to a collection station) are evaluated. Although many practical systems can provide not only calling but also pull-type polling communication, there are no report on the impact of access schemes of the calling or polling on the communication performance. In this report, the impact of transmission route configuration and access schemes on the communication performance in the receiver-initiated MAC protocol-based multi-hop network is discussed. The performance of F-RIT-based multi-hop network is evaluated by computer simulations in the cases that the calling communication and polling communication are used. Evaluation results show that the polling communication achieves higher collection success rate than the calling communication when data are collected frequently, but the polling communication generally requires larger delay and current consumption than the calling communication.
