Overestimation of Artificial Neural Network and Volterra Series Transfer Function in PRBS Based Signal Quality Evaluation

Abstract(in English) We compared overestimation problem of Volterra series transfer function (VSTF) with that of artificial neural network (ANN). We observed that not only ANN but also VSTF predict the pattern of pseudo-random binary sequence (PRBS). When the VSTF was trained on PRBS9, PRBS11, and PRBS15, the number of taps, with which VSTF started to predict the PRBS, was the same as that of ANN. However, VSTF using only first and third order Volterra kernels required a larger number of taps to predict the pattern of PRBS in comparison with the VSTF wth first, second, and third order Volterra kernels.
