Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Polar codes are shown to approach the channel capacity as the codeword length increases, and the recent studies have shown that the concatenation of polar codes with error detecting codes such as cyclic redundancy check (CRC) codes together with successive cancellation list decoding can significantly improve the performance even with moderate codeword length. On the other hand, in order to achieve higher bandwidth efficiency, the channel coding should be combined with high-order modulation. In this report, we study the use of multilevel coded modulation (MLC) and multistage decoding (MSD) based on the CRC-concatenated polar codes as its binary component codes. By the code rate design based on the channel capacity rule, it is shown that it can outperform the conventional polar coded modulation approaches. Furthermore, since the code rate of the highest level becomes closed to one, we demonstrate that one may replace the highest level code by low-complexity punctured convolutional codes together with soft-decision Viterbi decoding without penalty in terms of the achievable frame error rate performance. |
