Abstract(in English) SINET5 is an ultra-high-speed academic information network that logically connects 50 backbone IP routers located in all over Japan in fully-meshed topology using 100-Gbps transmission line. It also inter-connects with overseas academic networks using 100-Gbps international lines, contributing to global-scale academic researches. Various research cases in Japan and abroad using the ultra-high-speed network, and various utilization cases of the network services such as VPN providing secure research environment are introduced. Toward the next SINET, its first mobile function has been provided since December 2018, and various proposals from research institutes have been adopted for the public offering of the testbed trial. Introduction of 400-Gbps ultra-high-speed transmission system is planned, and the field-test results of 600-Gbps transmission technology is also reported.
