A Proposal of Improvement Method of Local Color Correction

Abstract(in English) It is difficult to take good pictures, when the scene has both of bright and dark regions. The visibility of the picture will be low, because dark regions are underexposure and bright regions are overexposure. N.Moroney proposed Local Color Correction(LCC) to improve the quality of such an image. LCC is a simple and effective method. However, it has some problems. Firstly, the scope of appropriate parameters for adjusting brightness is narrow. Secondly, although appropriate parameters of Gaussian filter are different for detail regions and other regions, only one parameter is adopted for entire image. Thirdly, LCC causes halo artifact. In this report, we propose an improvement method of LCC. In the proposed method, the intensity transform function is changed, different parameters are adopted for detail regions and other regions respectively and cross bilateral filter is used to prevent halo artifact.
