Measurement of Extension Amount of the Workpiece in Stamping by Using Surface Wave

Abstract(in English) Ultrasonic waves have the property of propagating not only to gases such as air but also to liquids and solids, and are used for shape measurement of objects and nondestructive testing. There is also a method of performing measurement similar to ultrasound using light, in particular laser light. However, in terms of cost and size of the measuring instrument, it is possible to measure with ultrasonic waves more easily. In press processing, a work material such as steel is pressed through a die with a press machine. At that time, if the amount of elongation of the material to be processed by the press can be measured accurately, improvement of the processing accuracy can be expected. It is possible by measuring the position of the end face of the workpiece (the depth of the dent) existing between the molds. In this study, surface waves are propagated to the mold, and the measurement method of the reflected wave from the end face of the workpiece is examined using the finite element method simulation.
