Server Load Balancing on Location-based P2P Networks and Its Evaluation

Abstract(in English) Recently, Location-based services (LBS) have been spreaded and attracting attention. In LBS, Users tend to communicate with many nearby users and objects to obtain surrounding information. Peer-to-peer (P2P) communication is suitable for LBS: It realizes direct and low-latencycommunication among peers without going through servers. Geo-location oriented network (G-LocON) was thus proposed as a communication frameworkwith location-based P2P networks. G-LocON can easily maintain the terminal information. However, when the number of terminals to be managed becomes larger, the increase ofserver load will present a problem with the search function for neighbor terminals. In this paper, we study a load balancing method assuming that G-LocON is used ina large-scale network. We also implement the proposed system to computers and thenevaluate it with multiple virtual terminals.
