Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Using female faces this study investigated the effects of the configuration and size of the eyes and facial coloration on the first impressions of the face. The configuration of the eyes affected facial impressions such as maturity (or babyfaceness) and healthiness, and the eye size influenced activeness, healthiness, and attractiveness. The facial coloration also had significant effects on activeness, maturity, and healthiness, but not on attractiveness. The latter result cast doubt on the generality of the claim that redness on female faces gives the impression of healthiness, which in turn makes the faces appear more attractive.
