Abstract(in English) We analyzed signboards in shopping-malls in Kyoto city, identifying the type of characters and languages. Although Kyoto is one of the cities a lot of foreign tourists visit, we found that language landscape of Kyoto is insufficient and unaccommodating to foreign tourists. Actually, texts in signboards are written in just a single language, in most cases only in Japanese. Obviously, Kyoto is far from a multilingualized city from the view point of signs and is inconvenient for foreign tourists compared to other tourist cities.
