Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Since digital signage is easy to display with changing languages, it is gaining attention as a method of presenting information for foreigners visiting Japan. In this paper, we focused on Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean, and survey multilingual signage in town. As a result, we found a signage that expresses different way for each language. Also, we found that parentheses and symbols are frequently used in signage. Furthermore, using the sightseeing brochure, we examined the differences in expressions by language, and found that there are differences in the usage of parentheses and symbols. There were inappropriate usage such as expressions applying Japanese parentheses and symbols to foreign languages. On the other hand, there were examples showing appropriate contents according to culture and customs. A future study includes to investigate to what extent these incorrect expressions are incongruous for foreigners
