Filtered Time Window to Reduce Implementation Complexity of UF-OFDM Transmitter

Abstract(in English) New waveforms enabling high out-of-band emission (OOBE) suppression and high spectrum efficiency are required for beyond 5th generation mobile communication (5G) systems. Furthermore, especially in uplink, lower implementation complexity for wave-shaping is required from the view of power consumption. Recently, universal filtered (UF)-DFT-OFDM / UF-DFTs-OFDM and enhanced UF (eUF)-OFDM / eUF-DFTs-OFDM, which are sufficiently robust against selective fading caused by long-delay propagation, have been proposed as candidates of wave-shaping technologies for 5G and beyond. These schemes can achieve high OOBE reduction with sufficient communication quality but require a quite large number of multiplications for wave-shaping due to the filter convolution in time-domain. In this paper, we propose a filtered-time window (f-TW) that can achieve almost same transmission and reception characteristics as the existing schemes with only one multiplication (i.e., low implementation complexity). In addition, the advantages of the proposed f-TW are discussed by numerically evaluating OOBE, PAPR, and BLER characteristics with LTE downlink and uplink parameters.
