Estimation of packet drop rate by parallel path active measurement

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we propose a method to estimate packet drop rate by performing end-to-end multi-path active measurement on the network. In many measurement situations, multiple paths are measured in parallel with multiple probe flows. However, information of only one probe flow of the multiple probe flows is utilized to measure an end-to-end metric on a path in conventional active measurement. Generally, the path of the probe flow has a common path in the parallel measurement. In the proposed method, the packet drop rate is estimated by using the drop packet information mutually among probe flows that experienced the same congestion in the common path. Simulation using NS-3 was performed, and packet drop rate and RMSE were calculated by the proposed method and conventional method. The proposed method reduces the RMSE on average by comparison with the conventional method.
