Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Shape information is vital for object recognition and it can be acquired by vision and haptic sensation. Previous studies showed object shape information is represented in patterns of brain activity of the visual and somatosensory cortex. However, it is unclear what brain areas are involved in information representation of object shape over time. In this study, we designed experiments using real objects in which subjects need longer time to recognize its object shape by touch, and investigated what brain areas represent object shape information over time using a searchlight method and time-resolved fMRI decoding approach. As a result, superior parietal lobule first showed significant decoding accuracy and then supramarginal gyrus and higher visual areas followed to show significant decoding accuracy. These results suggests that haptic information of object shape might be represented in superior parietal lobule early in time and then transferred to supramarginal gyrus and higher visual areas. |
