Study on Reduction of Virtual Sickness Using Audio Stimulation in Real Stereovision Environment

Abstract(in English) Recently Virtual Reality (VR) has become popular in various fields. Virtual sickness is one of the problems in VR research. Previous study showed that environmental sounds may reduce virtual sickness compared to other types of sounds. Therefore, we carried out an experiment using real stereo vison contents w/o music (environmental sounds, up-tempo music and slow-tempo music). In result, there was no significant difference between silence and other auditory conditions. When classifying the total score as nausea, eyestrain and dizziness, we found a certain trend toward significance in nausea. In conclusion, virtual sickness is not reduced, but nausea is likely to reduce by the environmental sounds.
