Abstract(in English) This paper presents an accurate 3D positioning system with a smartphone for handheld augmented reality (HAR).In this system, the 3D coordinates of target points for placing annotations in the 3D environment are computed by using interactive multi-view triangulation based on one-handed thumb operation.The interactive triangulation generally requires users to select the pixels of the target point in camera images displayed on the screen.While one handed-thumb interaction on a smartphone is the simplest, it is difficult to accurately select pixels, and therefore the accuracy of triangulation decreases.Therefore, we propose to use multiple observations with a robust estimator for the triangulation.In addition, we developed three pixel selection methods, and investigated both the accuracy of 3D positioning and the usability.A pixel is utilized at the thumb position at a live view in FingAR, the center position of a reticle marker at a live view in SnipAR, or that of a movable reticle marker at a freezed view in FreezAR. Through the user experiment, we show the usefulness of proposed method in terms of accuracy, and subjective evaluation compared with the state-of-the-art method.
