A Switching Method of Media Access Control for Capture Effect Considering Fairness among WLAN Systems

Abstract(in English) Portable wireless LAN (WLAN) systems using mobile AP (Access Point) and tethering terminal are increasing. In places where many people such as cafes and conference rooms stay, the WLAN systems are densely placed and the throughput may be reduced due to an exposed terminal problem. To cope with this problem, a wireless LAN media access control (MAC) considering the capture effect has been proposed in such multiple dense WLAN environment. And, it is confirmed the throughput can be greatly improved. On the other hand, if the methods using capture effect are mixed with conventional CSMA/CA, there is a problem that the throughput of each system becomes unfair. Also, since the degree of influence due to radio wave interference varies depending on the positional relationship among neighboring WLAN systems, there is a possibility of unfairness problem even in an environment where only CSMA/CA is used. Therefore, in this study, in order to improve the fairness of throughput in the environment where the WLAN systems densely exist, we propose a switching method of MAC using capture effect. Next, simulation shows that fairness improves when using the proposed method.
