Dynamic deployment of virtual cache function for content delivery services with minimum network cost

Abstract(in English) The algorithm to determine the place where network functions are located and how much capacities of network functions flexibly are required is essential for economical NFV-based network design. The authors proposed an algorithm of virtual routing function and virtual firewall function allocation in the NFV network for minimizing the total network cost, and developed effective allocation guidelines for virtual functions. This paper proposes a dynamic allocation algorithm of content cache function for content delivery services with the minimum network cost. Our evaluation results with a ladder model that approximated the shape of Japan have revealed the following: (1) Effective cache deployment can be realized even with an algorithm that easily judges whether to cache the content for each content or area. (2) The lower the content cache cost relative to the bandwidth cost, the more content cache functions will be employed. The proposed algorithm can reduce the network cost by 30% or more as compared with distribution from all original servers. (3) The proposed method would reduce the network cost by about 15% compared with virtual CDN.
