Abstract(in English) | Based on the experience of the Great East Japan Earthquake, National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) has developed a mobile earth station for the Wideband InterNetworking engineering test and Demonstration Satellite "KIZUNA" (WINDS) which can be communicated by simple operation. Assuming movement immediately after the disaster with the disaster countermeasure organizations such as a fire department emergency relief team, this mobile earth station for the WINDS can transmit 24 Mbps data while moving at 100 km/h. In addition, as this mobile earth station is excellent in usability, it is technology for which the fire departments and defence bodies concerned have great expectations. In operation, however, the mobile earth station cannot be communicated with satellite due to shadowing by buildings, tree, utility pole etc. Therefore, we created a shadowing model using GIS and building database for Ka-band in urban area, and tried to estimate the shadowing area for Ka-band in Sendai, Japan. To verify the accuracy of the shadowing area estimated, after driving near Sendai station, we conducted a field study and grasped the received beacon C/N0. Although there are areas that are estimated as unable to communicate and the vice versa, we find both results to have a correspondence relation. Then, the estimated city was expanded throughout Japan, and the shadowing area for Ka-band was estimated, and comparison between cities was carried out. |
