Abstract(in English) | Since the explosively increasing of wireless-LAN-connected terminals, such as notebook PCs and tablet PSs, used in enterprise environments, the communication quality degradations caused by the wireless LAN (WLAN) are often observed. The first reason is that the bandwidth is narrow in comparison with the wired LAN. The second one is that the traffic volume at WLAN access point (WLAN AP) is abruptly changed by the mobility of device. Although, existing end-to-end throughput measurement cannot detect the bottleneck. Nor wireless-layer quality measurement cannot detect degradation of TCP-connection’s quality which affect QoE (Quality of Experience). In this research, we developed new measurement method that detects the deteriorated TCP-connection affected by the WLAN’s bottleneck. Our passive measurement method is based on the nature of TCP’s RTT that continuously increase at the WLAN’s bottleneck. By combining the detected TCP-connection’s information and WLAN AP’s connection information, we can specify the WLAN-AP in the bottleneck WLAN. We also prototyped a WLAN-quality visualization tool and applied our method to enterprise network over a thousand of hosts. As a result, our method clearly detected the wireless bottlenecks on the enterprise network. |
