Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper reports on the small scale research into English causal expressions and more particularly into semantic roles of subordinators in reason clauses. The results of the research show that the subordinator “as” is frequently observed in the register of in-house documents as well as “because” and “since” whereas “as” is infrequently observed in the register of newspaper in contrast with heavily used “because”.
