Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | The present study investigated the content and frequency of emotion words in Japanese children’s storybooks and compared them with those of parental emotion word usage. First, we created a comprehensive Japanese emotion word list (770 words) using the lists from previous research and emotion expression dictionaries. For the analysis, the Japanese storybook corpus, which contains the text of 5,394 storybooks and parents’ utterances from 448 Japanese parent-child interactions in the CHILDES database were used. The results show that storybooks present a wide variety of emotion words, which may include emotions that children rarely experience in daily life. When comparing the top 20 most frequently used emotion words in storybooks to those in parental utterances, storybooks featured more positive emotion words while parents used more negative emotion words. |
