Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Maintenance of cognitive function is needed for improving health in super-aged society. Especially working memory, which decline in aging, is exposed to a large amount of information in a short time, so the cognitive load becomes stronger. In this study, the relationship between visual spatial cognition and finger movement was compared in order to examine the factors pertaining to the maintenance of working memory in healthy elderly male volunteers. When participants were given a task where they were asked to arrange four numerals, which were momentarily presented on a monitor, in ascending order by using their finger to indicate their response, there was no significant difference in the extraction of spatial configuration and order between the low performance group and high performance group for accuracy. However, the study suggests that these may have played a part in the differences in performance observed during the process of transferring spatial configuration and order into finger movement.
