Abstract(in English) | We have proposed a method for extracting the maximum and minimum strains produced in a Brillouin gain spectrum (BGS) observation section centered at the position at which the BGS is observed, that is, the strain is measured, and demonstrated the availability of this method by simulations. In this method, those strains are analyzed by applying nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) to the BGSs observed along the optical fiber. The Brillouin scattered light propagating along the optical fiber is attenuated by the loss of the optical fiber itself or the connection between fibers, and the BGS observed practically includes noise. In this report, the results of the maximum and minimum strain extraction simulations conducted by considering these factors are presented. The maximum and minimum strains extracted from BGSs without noise were not affected by the loss. In contrast, the strains extracted from BGSs with both the noise and optical loss fluctuated according to the signal to noise ratio. The fluctuation was reduced by conducting a smoothing processing to the BGSs as pre-processing. |
