| A 12-key mobile phone keypad poses a special challenge for Thai text input, since it has 72 characters (consonant, vowel, tone mark and special symbol). Today, there are various keypad mappings for Thai language that depend on brand and model of the handset, but most of them support multitap and predictive methods such as T9 and iTap. This paper reports a comparison of well-known mobile phone manufacturers' (Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung and Motorola) Thai keypad layouts in terms of keystrokes requirement to type a character. We use common Thai words, phrases and sentences to compare the number of keystroke requirements of each keyboard layout. |
