This paper presents a method of automatically determining compatibility of method invocations in an Object-Oriented Database (OODB) based on state-based commutativity. Semantics exploitation is one of the common techniques of increasing concurrency in transaction processing. In OODB, object creator defines, in a compatibility table, a semantic-based way of how methods commute and Concurrency Control Module refers to it to establish if two method invocations on that object can take place concurrently. In this paper, we seek to automate this process by establishing invocation compatibilities at transaction execution time from the semantics of methods using a set of affected attributes summarized in what we have called Access-Mode-Set (AMS). |
