Geological disposal is the most realistic method in high-level radioactive waste (HLW). For keeping HLW, the vessel must have high reliability and long-term stability.The combination of steel and bentonite is proposed for use in deep-seated geological repositories for radioactive waste. Since the repository for the case that requires long-term reliability is needed, the deterioration mechanism of steel and bentonite is important. The oxide structure of the sample after electrochemical test is the same as that after exposure corrosion test. Therefore the electrochemical process may control the corrosion of carbon steel in bentonite. |
