This paper presents the design of the antenna with two layers of a band stop frequency selective surface (FSS) for the directivity enhancement of an ultra-wideband antenna. The structures of both FSS layers are based on the modified square ring resonator. By combination of two FSS structures, they achieve the wide frequency range of 3.0-10.8 GHz. The results show that the FSS structure can use to improve the radiation efficiency of the antenna over the entire ultra-wideband (UWB) spectrum when used as a reflector.
