Changes in salivary oxytocin levels in women after being addressed by her first name by men
Akihiro Tada, Mikayo Futagawa (POLA R&M)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We investigated whether human biology is altered in a positive way, possibly through the neuroendocrine mechanisms responsible for strengthening the social bonds between individuals, when men address women by their first name. We found that this act both increases the levels of salivary oxytocin, a hormone involved in the formation and maintenance of positive relationships, and reduces the levels of salivary cortisol, which is often considered a biomarker of stress. We conclude that the hormonal differences observed in women are the result of being addressed by their first name by men, and may indicate the formation of a good relationship.
