In this paper, an ultrawideband biconical antenna is proposed for substations. Firstly, the proposed antenna has two identical elements. Each element is composed of a cone and a cylinder. A smooth transition structure connected two components of antenna element and feed structure are designed which makes it possess a wide bandwidth and stable radiation characteristics. Secondly, the influence of radius, height and feed cable length are discussed to get the optimum dimensions. The antenna covers the frequency range from 17 MHz to 3.6 GHz with return loss below -10 dB, fractional bandwidth achieves 2000% and has an omnidirectional radiation pattern. The realized gain above 0 dB when frequency higher than 0.4 GHz. The antenna shows great advantages over other biconical antennas on bandwidth and gains. |
