A 0.5-V 5.8-GHz Current-Reuse-VCO-Based PLL with Amplitude Regulation Technique

(in English) This paper presents design and detail measurement results of the ultra-low-power 5.8-GHz PLL with a current-reuse VCO and an injection-locked frequency divider for low voltage power-supply operation of 0.5 V. Amplitude imbalance of differential outputs of the current-reuse VCO due to its asymmetric structure can be reduced by the proposed amplitude regulation technique which utilizes only one capacitor at the center-tap of the inductor. The proposed PLL in a 65nm CMOS process consumes 0.69 mW. With a 41.4MHz reference, it shows a 100kHz bandwidth, a 10-MHz-offset phase noise of -129dBc/Hz, and a reference spur level lower than -70dBc.
