Current Reduction Effects of Baluns for Measurement of Small Antennas
Toru Fukasawa, Naofumi Yoneda (Mitsubishi Electric Co.)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) A coaxial cable for measurement connected to a small antenna affects characteristics of the antenna. It becomes significant when the antenna is small and asymmetric configuration. A balun has been proposed to be used for antenna measurement with reduced influence of a measurement cable. A balun is originally utilized for a transformer set between an unbalanced and a balanced lines, to feed a balanced antenna such as a dipole antenna. Though it also has possibility to reduce unbalanced current on a coaxial cable when in measurement of a small antenna, there are some kinds of balun that do not have effect to reduce the unbalanced current. In this technical report, we separate two groups of baluns with regard to effect to reduce the unbalanced current when in measurement of a small antenna.
