Secure Precoded OFDM Transmission Using Randomized Unitary Matrix

(in English) This paper considers a network consisting of a base station (BS), a legitimate user equipment (UE), and an eavesdropper (Eve) and propose a physical-layer security (PLS) scheme for down link transmissions with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). Specifically, assuming that the legitimate UE and the BS share a common random number generator, BS performs a frequency-domain OFDM symbol-wise precoding using a unitary matrix and a diagonal matrix with a emph{random phase shift}. The legitimate UE can equalize the received signals using emph{a prior} knowledge of the random phase shift and achieve the lower error rate performance by obtaining frequency diversity than one without the precoding. Whereas Eve has to estimate the phase shift besides the transmitted data from one OFDM symbol, which makes the eavesdropping significantly difficult. Numerical results quantitatively confirm that our proposed PLS is secure even against the Eve with strong side information in terms of bit error rate (BER) performances and information-theoretic secrecy rate.
