Design of electromagnetic scattering wall for improvement of wireless communications quality at 28 GHz

(in English) 5G wireless communications use electromagnetic (EM) waves in 28 GHz band. In this frequency band, high-directivity (gain) antennas are used, and the EM waves radiated from the antennas are reflected in a specular direction by room walls. If there are obstructions in between the transmitting and receiving antennas inside the room, the wireless communication quality will be deteriorated since neither direct wave nor reflected wave reaches the receiver. Therefore, we propose a metamaterial (MTM) EM scattering wall for improving wireless communication quality and show its designed method. In addition, we clarify the effectiveness of the prototype EM MTM scattering wall by the EM radio wave propagation measurement experiment.
