Optical eigenvalue communication system has attracted attention in recent years because it has the potential to overcome the capacity limit due to Kerr nonlinearity in optical fiber. We proposed a multi-level eigenvalue modulation method using the on–off states of the multi-eigenvalue and demonstrated a successful transmission of a 16-ary eigenvalue-modulated signal. In this manuscript, we report a design and transmission experiment of a 4096-ary eigenvalue-modulated signal using on–off states of 12 eigenvalues. In addition, we demonstrate the applicability of an eigenvalue-domain neural network receiver to demodulation of the 4096-ary eigenvalue-modulated signal. |
