A 28 GHz Band Circularly Polarized Antenna Constituted by a Cross Loop Structure

(in English) This report presents that a 28 GHz band circularly polarized antenna has been achieved with the cross loop invented by the author. The expected communication performance for the 5th generation mobile communication system(5G) will be obtained by using the 28 GHz band. The microwave band called the Sub 6 band is mainly used in 5G as of 2021, though. Moreover, most mobile devices are installed only sub 6 band antennas, but almost no 28 GHz band antennas. This is not only because millimeter waves are generally affected by surrounding environment a lot and propagate only short distances, but also it is difficult for constituting millimeter wave antenna by using dielectric substrates as in the microwave band. In this report, the circularly polarized antenna radiating tilted beam with high radiation efficiency is challenged to be configured on a dielectric substrate by using the cross loop invented by the author. As a result, the author realized an antenna that radiates circularly polarized waves with axial ratios of 3 dB or less with a wide beam width of about 110 degrees in a direction inclined by 60 degrees with respect to the normal of the dielectric substrate around 28 GHz.
