To reverse engineer complex behavior of realistic object-oriented programs based on UML is still challenging. For example in a sequence diagram, an object appears in quite different ways when it serves as a sender or receiver of a message and as a parameter or return value, and thus compound method invocations such as invocation chains cannot be represented directly. Therefore in this paper, we present a dynamic visualization model to combine sequence and object diagrams to directly represent complex collaboration where the types of object roles frequently change between sender/receiver and parameter/return value. Through experiments with 24 professional Java programmers, we confirmed that our dynamic visualization model is more effective than a certain static visualization model for such complex collaboration. |
