A 60 GHz-band S/H CMOS IC for Direct RF Undersampling Reception

(in English) As the increasing demand for high-speed communication, the use of millimeter-wave such as 60 GHz band has been attracting attention for broadband communication. We have been developed Ka-band sample-and-hold (S/H) IC for direct RF undersampling reception. In this paper, we designed the 60 GHz band S/H IC and fabricated it in 65nm CMOS process. For increasing the operating frequency to 60 GHz, the clock signal characteristics (e.g. jitter) effect is more remarkable than Nyquist sampling. Since the fall time that transitions from sampling to hold state decreases the hold output voltage, it should be also considered not only jitter. We determined the target of the fall time by the simulation and designed a clock forming circuit to meet the target. In order to achieve 2 GHz bandwidth, the parasitic capacitance between the gate and source of the buffer amplifier is utilized as a hold capacitor. The fabricated S/H IC in 65nm CMOS process achieved SNR > 20 dB and its frequency flatness < 1 dB across 2 GHz bandwidth at 60 GHz band.
